Creating Your Future
Wherever you are on your life’s journey there are a few key beliefs that can help you create a future of success and happiness (of course, that depends on your definition of those two things.) For me that also includes health. Here are a few common core beliefs that have shown to move you in the right direction.
First, you are the expert on YOU! If you are feeling that you have lost your direction you won’t find the answers by asking others what they think you should do or looking outside yourself. The answers are always within.
Second, you already have all the resources you need. Start by identifying one thing that you are confident about – like your ability to tie your shoelaces. Yes, it’s that simple. If you have the least bit of confidence you can build on it. Start by tackling some small things where you feel a bit anxious and once you overcome that one, build on the next one. The next resource you possess is the capacity for love. Recognizing that you have these resources is the first step towards your success and happiness.
Third, you can do anything if you break it down into smaller tasks. The fact is that any skill can be learned, any problem solved, and any task accomplished by breaking it down into smaller pieces. We actually do this all the time without realizing its importance. Such as memorizing phone numbers by breaking them into smaller sets or even when we are paying off a large, expensive purchase by making monthly installments. The point being that if you want to tear down the wall between you and your pursuit of happiness it is best to do it one block at a time.
Fourth, if what you are doing isn’t working, do something else. Instead of getting angry and frustrated, be willing to try a different approach. We often get trapped in our thinking that there is only one way to confront a problem which is often based in our beliefs or fear that something could go wrong. Remember you have the resource of confidence to draw on, so step outside your comfort zone.
Fifth, there is no such thing as failure – just feedback. Every result is providing you with new information that tells you whether your actions are moving you towards your goal. Failure is a part of the learning process, but it is not people that fail, it is the strategies or tactics that are unsuccessful. Once you realize that failure is an occasional, and sometimes frustrating, stepping stone, you can start to see the path more clearly.
And, sixth, you are creating your future right now. Live in the present. If you continually live looking back at the past you will miss all the opportunities and beauty that life has to offer. Every moment of every day provides you with the hope of achieving health and happiness.
Your future awaits.
Until next time…
