La Vida Va (2)

The second book that gave me a new perspective on loss is The Year of Magical Thinking, by Joan Didion, 2005. Ms. Didion helps put into words an explanation of all the feelings you experience in that year of “firsts” after a loved one is gone. The first holidays, birthdays, family gatherings, Sunday dinners – all that are so very different now and sometimes so very hard to get through. You “magically” think about how it used to be or should be. And while I didn’t discover this book until after that first year I certainly could relate and since then have recommend this book to anyone who has experienced loss – to read when they feel ready, or when those big “firsts” start to occur. What it helped me to see was that we come out of that first year with the opportunity to make new firsts with our loved ones’ memory that remind us that life goes on.
La Vida va…
