Laughter is Good Medicine

We all know that depression and stress can weaken the immune system but there is also evidence that humor can strengthen it. Even a smile can counteract the negative energy. The greater the intensity of the laughter, the longer the impact on decreasing your tension. A good belly laugh can increase your breathing and aid your digestion by increasing the oxygen in your bloodstream. So, how can you make laughter work for you? Here are a few suggestions:

  • Practice laughing 5 minutes a day. Fake it till you make it!
  • Watch a funny movie or TV show, read a funny book or cartoon, think of a past situation when you had a good belly laugh.
  • Share laughter with others. Take them to the movies or share a good joke.
  • Play with pets or watch some funny pet videos if you don’t have one of your own.

And here are few quotes to keep you smiling:

“The person who knows how to laugh at himself will never cease to be amused.” ~ Shirley MacLaine

“Laughter is the tonic, the relief, the surcease for pain.” ~ Charlie Chaplin

“Laughter is the closest distance between two people.” ~ Victor Borge

Be the reason someone smiles today.

Until next time…
