Light the Candles

Perhaps it is a gift of age that you come to realize that you can’t keep saving the good stuff for later, although sometimes life can bring you that awareness in other ways in your younger years. Either way it is a revelation that we all should heed. We tend to move through life acquiring things that either we bought with an intention to use or someone gave to us intending for it to bring us joy. But what joy comes from the unlit candle collecting dust on a shelf or tabletop?

Perhaps it is the approaching of spring that brings this to our attention with the traditions of “spring cleaning”. Or for some, a realization that they need to simplify their life. For me, it is now all of these coming together and so little by little I am examining my life, my belongings (aka stuff), and surroundings to see if they still have the intention to bring joy to my life or to someone else. It’s time to use the good china, light the scented candles, wear your best pearls and say yes to joy.

So, what gets in the way? Here are three things to think about…

  1. What do you need to say no to so that you can make room for more yeses?
  2. What is the one thing you want to say yes to today?
  3. Share those two things – the no and the yes – with someone that truly supports you.

I would love to hear from you.

And finally, think on this – if you don’t move out the old stuff you might be holding the door shut for more good stuff to come to you.

until next time…
