Make a Move
Sometimes you just have to make a move, any move, towards your goals or your vision, even if it might seem futile at the time. A few weeks ago, I decided to tackle redesigning my home work space so that I can begin new creative endeavors. First, I needed to commit to letting stuff go, deciding where or to whom it needed to go, and then move it out. I have collected a lot of little things that have memories attached to them and for now those are packed in boxes until the new space is ready for them (or not). The biggest move was converting my writing desk to a sewing table and setting up my new sewing machine so that I can refresh my sewing skills and help teach my granddaughters. It will also be a part of my future retirement volunteer activities.
The next step will be to find the perfect writing and crafting desk for all the endeavors of Alaka’i Associates. There will be handmade cards from recycled materials and other projects that will require that creative space.
As I worked through all of that, and while the room is not yet completed, I realized there was a palpable new energy being created in that room. Now usually sweating and moving furniture wouldn’t be something I would think would put me in the flow but it did and I felt both exhausted and re-energized at the same time. It also reminded me of the principles of feng shui – “the art of manipulating one’s physical surroundings for the purpose of nudging fate in a favorable direction…to create balance and harmony in your personal environment.”
So, the next time you find yourself feeling stuck – make a move – even if it means moving furniture.
Until next time…

Awesome, Lani! Great blog article. Glad to know you’ve started moving the energy in that room so it feels open and creative!
